Early Americans applied the term “pilgrim” to all of the early colonists; it wasn’t until the 20th century that it was used exclusively to describe the folks who landed on Plymouth Rock.

A British mill has created the world's first woolen coffins to satisfy an unusual gap in the funeral market.

AW Hainsworth, which clothes royalty at ceremonial events, invented the product because of a dissatisfaction with traditional caskets.

Conventional coffins are made from wood, which makes them cold, angular and unapproachable to grieving family members, according to AW Hainsworth.

Woolen coffins on the other hand, are made from wool and comprise an MDF base board, a cardboard frame and a cotton lining and costing GBP900.

The idea of woolen coffins goes back to the 17th century, when the deceased had to be buried in wool in an attempt to boost the industry.

AW Hainsworth, aware of criticisms levelled at traditional coffins, decided to reinvent the idea and has since placed a patent on it.

The decision was announced at the ongoing 13th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Port Louis, Mauritius.

The Lum medicinal bathing of Sowa Rigpa is the traditional knowledge and practices concerning life, health and illness prevention and treatment among the Tibetan people in China.

Speaking after the decision to inscribe this intangible cultural heritage on the list, Chinese Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Zhang Xu said that Lum medicinal bathing of Sowa Rigpa has an important bearing on the everyday life of people of the Tibetan ethnic group.

"This heritage not only embodies the folk experience in disease prevention and treatment, it also represents an inheritance and development of the traditional Tibetan medicine theories in modern health practices," Zhang said.

With the inscription of the Lum medicinal bathing of Sowa Rigpa, China now has 40 inscribed elements in total on relevant UNESCO lists, including 32 elements inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, 7 elements inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, and one program selected to the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices.
